On The Bridge

Standing at the guardrail, Rory studied the rocks below and took a shaky breath. The widower had struggled to provide for his family after losing his job, hoping things would improve. They hadn't. Past-due bills had piled up. Today he'd received an eviction notice.

Emotionally shattered, Rory climbed over the railing. But hands pulled him to safety.

"Remember your sons," the stranger said, his eyes kind. "Milt and Joe love you. They need you."

Their faces appeared in Cory's mind and he sobbed. Horrified at what he'd almost done, he stumbled toward home.

Behind him, the angel unfurled his wings.
