What can I say that's not already been said
about the heart-stopping, gut-wrenching pain
that Covid-19 has unleashed on the world
so much loss, and so little gain.
We can no longer become better people
by reaching out, giving someone a hug,
isolation isolates us emotionally too
we watch the news with a sigh and a shrug.
Will we even be able to leave our houses?
Locked doors are the norm for society.
Burglar alarms set, windows tightly shut
are the measure of escalating anxiety.
No, I have faith in mothers and fathers
children and grandparents too.
Give us time, and virus-free air for a while,
society can, and will, flourish anew.
