The Shade of the Old Oak Tree
By: James Rumpel

"You haven't noticed anything odd about the black oak in the backyard?"

"I haven't been back there. I'm busy unpacking … like you should be."

"I only went back there to look for the dog."

"Did you find Mitzie?"

"I watched her run behind the shed but couldn't find her."

"Okay, you unpack the dishes and I'll look."

"That's a good idea. I think she was digging by the tree. You should check there."

John watched Marsha leave, a pleased smile on his face. His master, the Oak Ghost, will be pleased that he has sent another sacrifice.
