Merry Christmas

Devin and Maria watched their child sleep in front of the fireplace. From their viewpoint, it appeared the flames tickled the Christmas stocking that hung from the mantel.

Devin picked up his son and carried him to his bedroom while Maria placed presents under the Christmas Tree.

"Merry Christmas. Love," Devin said as he walked back into the living room and lovingly kissed his wife.

A cold winter chill tickled Devin's skin as he opened his eyes; he sat up from his cot alone, cold and forgotten, in an empty room.

"This is my Christmas, Now," Devin said.
