As I lay you down to sleep,
I place a kiss upon your cheek,
Then I stop to ponder for a moment--
As to where the time has gone?
And to where it's going!
What will you up grow to be?
I'll just have to wait and see!
Yesterday you were a babe,
But today you're not so small.
Tomorrow you will grow,
And soon you'll be big and tall.
So, I'll ask again--where has the time gone?
The minutes, the hours, the days;
Already I am missing your baby ways.
I cover your toes to keep them warm,
And sneak out quietly to wait 'till morn,
To see your precious smile shine,
And thank the lord again, that at least for today,You are mine.
