Not a Big Deal

"I don't see any nematodes." Ama stared at the soil. "Just plain old dirt."

"They're small." Connor explained.

A worm-like thing crawled out of the earth.

Ama shrieked, "Snake!"

"That's a nematode but it's gotta be a foot long. I've never heard of large specimens here, but… Much longer ones have been found in volcanoes and polar ice caps."

In the dead of night, hundreds more erupted from the ground.

An anaconda-length one slithered out of the woods.

"First objective achieved," the smaller ones reported.

"The humans?" the large one demanded.

"They suspect nothing."
