Ghosties and Goblins and Ghoulies OH MY!!! Happy Halloween everybody!! It's been a minute since our last issue hasn't it? While I am thankful for that, I am so very excited for this issue! I had assumed that the size of our anniversary issue was a one shot deal. Boy was I wrong! Which, by the way, makes me so very very happy!! First off, I want to congratulate DC Diamondopolous and her story Taps on winning Member of the Month! Well done! I would also like to welcome all the new contributors. I am over the moon at the influx of new talent to add to our already amazing line up. I am very proud of our little magazine. We have so much to offer you this month, including our new flash fiction/micro fiction drabble section. Which, to my great joy, has really taken off. As with every month, I will be doing the Magazine Review podcast on Monday, so make sure you have the time as it's going to be another long one. I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't touch on the many celebrations that occur this time of year. Halloween, of course, is celebrated on October 31, but have you ever wondered where it comes from? It is much more than costumes and bags of free candy. It originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (Sowwen), when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trickortreating, carving jackolanterns, festive gatherings, donning the costumes and of course eating treats. It is a celebration of the last harvest of the year, and the time to prepare for the long cold winter. They also say it is the time when the veil between the land of the living and the land of the dead is at it's thinnest. David K Montoya's Commentary touches on the Day of the Dead celebrations so I will let you read about that over there. What ever you think the day is about, how ever you celebrate it, maybe, just maybe, that chill you feel, that shiver up your spine, that whisper in the dark, may just be a spirit from beyond. Be sure to check out the latest Myth Master podcast as he has Jeff Young in the dungeon. Poor boy. Happy celebrating everyone and we will see you all next month! Get those submissions in early! Best Regards,
