The Hanging Tree
By: Dawn DeBraal

They called it the Hanging Tree. It was out behind the Old Plantation Restaurant. Many men found their end on that tree, back in the day when hangings took the place of justice. It was said those hung men haunted that tree. On windy nights you could hear them moan and groan. It was creepy. In the light of the full moon, the shadows of all the dead men blew in the breeze. You could see their bodies swinging back and forth in a hypnotic pendulum motion. The horror Bud felt looking at the rotten corpses would never leave him.
