Here we are. It is August. I feel as if we are standing on the edge of the end of summer watching Fall wave at us from the distance. It's not a far distance either. I can feel it in the chill of the night air, smell it in the way the leaves on the tree's smell. If you live in an area that displays each season in vibrant color and temperature, like I do, you know what I mean. You watch the leaves blow in the wind and you can see the brittle dryness setting in. They aren't as supple as they once were. The color of green is darker, almost muted, sad. It is the Dying time as some call it. The begin of the harvest if you are a farmer, or gardener. Our thoughts begin to turn to more indoor activities, the memory of crackling fires and warm sweaters tease at our dreams while we are still sporting tank tops and shorts.
August is a strange month for the seasons. It is caught between the flush of summer and the chill of Autumn. But while the world may be pulling back and into itself to prepare for the colder darker months, as a writer, my creativity begins to flow. Which I will expand on in my episode of The World of Mythbits. Yes, that's right, I am going to do an episode or two, not the show every week, but once in a while you will hear me over there. You are going to hear a lot of new and fun things over there!
I would like to congratulate Kathy Sherban for snagging another Member of the Month title!
You can read it here: https://jayzohub.com/darkmythproductions/theworldofmyth/109/poems/conviction.html
I also want to congratulate Clayton Barton for gracing our cover with his outstanding artwork. Please don't forget to go and vote or comment on our art gallery. Just like writers, it means the world to them to know that people appreciate their efforts.
Just a heads up, our calendars will be going on sale next month, so if you are interested keep an eye out for the pre-order announcement! We have some amazing artwork from our contributors and buy purchasing one, you are not only showing your appreciation for their efforts but helping to support them just a little. Each artist gets royalties from the sale of each calendar.
I am sure you have heard by now, and if you haven't, I hate being the bearer of bad news, but ScareFaire has been canceled for this year. To many roadblocks and time conflicts to pull it off.
PCE will still be happening! It is being held in California, the birthplace of PCE itself, and will be held on November 13th. There are rumors that it may be extended to a two day event, but I do not have confirmation of that at the time of this writing. I am so excited! I am going to have a table and sell my books and shirts and anything else I can whip up between now and then! Or I may just do all that at the Myth Mart table. If you've ever seen me at PCE or ScareFaire you know I very rarely stand still. Always working!!
I hope you enjoy the amazing pieces we have to offer you this month. Again, the quality of work just amazes me every month. I love seeing our regulars come back and all the new faces as well. I was asked recently by one of our regular contributors, if I would ever say no to their work, I told them if they started turning in crap, yes, I would. So, remember, the bar is set for the magazine, just because I don't say no to you now, doesn't mean I won't.
Happy reading and listening!
