A Day Without You
By: Ann Christine Tabaka

a day without you
---------is a lifetime without breath
a beach without ocean
a sky without sun

you are the thread of my existence
---------weaving life into every pore
skin against skin
light against dark

water flows between us
---------but does not separate us
we carve a valley through the storm
leaving footprints in wet sand

whispering secrets
---------the wind calls your name
wrapping me in desire
as dreams rain down

I count the heartbeats
---------pulsing through my veins
carrying me ever closer to you
once more
