Submission Prerequisite:
All contributors, including columnists and staff members, are required to subscribe to our magazine by signing up for membership. The only information required for this is a valid name and e-mail address. Your e-mail address will not be used for any purpose other than to provide information for Horrotica Online Magazine. We do not sell subscriber information to third parties or target it for junk e-mail.
Format:
Due to recurring problems with reformatting .rtf manuscripts, we NO LONGER accept Rich Text Format manuscripts. Any submissions sent in .rtf will be returned unopened. Sorry for any inconvenience this change may cause.
Contributors should be aware that the Submission Guidelines (SG) are periodically updated, with the most recent version date appearing at the bottom. Failure to follow all of the SG will result in an automatic rejection of your submission.
We accept e-mail submissions only, with your work submitted as an attachment. Queries are unnecessary but the SG must be stringently followed as outlined below, regardless of whether youre submitting for the first time or have been published in our magazine numerous times. Please note that submissions must originate from the e-mail address of the author, poet or artist who created the work. We cannot accept submissions forwarded to us through friends or acquaintances due to copyright reasons.
The subject line of the e-mail should contain the following information: Submission Type (Art, poem, or story), Title, and the last name of the Author or Artist. As an example, your subject line should look like this:
Horrotica submission: Story--Devil's Due--Newbill.
In the body of the e-mail, please submit a cover letter that includes your full name, valid e-mail address, physical mailing address, word count, title(s), the genre, a brief description of the submission, and a short bio of 50 words or less. *Note: if you use a pen name, we still require your real name for administrative purposes only.
Potential sponsors and advertisers for our site are looking for a target audience (see: Advertisers). In any event, the Editor in Chief has the final say about what is or is not published.
Stories
Horrotica Online Magazine considers stories in the following genres: Dark Action, Dark Adventure, Horror, Dark Fantasy, Dark Humor, and Science Fiction. We accept a variety of submission lengths, ranging from "Flash" fiction (under 100 words), short-shorts (under 500 words), and short stories (3,000 words or less). While we do publish stories longer than 3,000 words, they will require author-formatted serialization and a synopsis, outline, or more thorough story description in the cover letter of your submission e-mail. Serialized stories may appear in more than one issue if accepted. *Note: only the most exceptional 3,000+ word stories are accepted for serialization.
We prefer stories attached as either a MS-Word or Open Office document. Please contact the Editor in Chief before submitting in other formats.
Submissions should be double-spaced with one inch margins, non-justified, and sent as an e-mail attachment. Underline words that need to be italicized. When double-spacing lines, it is not necessary to insert additional space between paragraphs; a single tab indentation will suffice. Please number the pages, double space between sentences, and check the spelling, grammar and punctuation of your tales. We're only interested in polished work, not rough drafts.
Send all stories to the Editor in Chief.
Poetry & Artwork
Basically, Horrotica Online Magazine is looking for anything with interesting subject matter that will complement the genres of the magazine.
Poems should be 500 words or less and you may submit up to three poems at a time. Epic and story poems of 500+ words will be considered on a case by case basis.
Artwork should be submitted as an attachment in J-peg (.jpg) format, with at least 100 dpi. Contact the Assistant Editor before submitting in other formats. Limit submissions to three pieces of art per attachment. The "Cover Artwork" of the magazine will be chosen from among all submissions.
Send all artwork and poems to the Editor in Chief.

Copyrights
Copyrights remain with the author, poet, or artist at all times. However, we do ask that you refrain from re-posting your work anywhere else after notification of acceptance and for 60 days after Horrotica Online Magazine publishes your work. Failure to follow this request will jeopardize the consideration of your work in future publications. During publication, we grant contributors permission to post hyper-links that allow others to read their work on our site.
Additionally, if your story, poem, or artwork is accepted, we may include a webpage link at the time of publication if you desire. Be advised that Horrotica Online Magazine is not responsible for damages, monetary or otherwise, incurred as a result of publishing work in our magazine. By submitting your work to this magazine, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these guidelines.
Reply Time
Please allow up to four weeks for a reply to submissions. If four weeks have passed without a reply, please query us for the status. Again, failure to follow all guidelines will result in an automatic rejection of your submission.
We are constantly on the lookout for new talent so if we reject your submission, we will attempt to provide reasons for our decision. On occasion, we may include a short critique at our discretion. Please do not take these rejections personally or allow them to discourage you from submitting again in the future. Every published writer has been seen their fair share of rejections. For questions concerning submissions, contact the Editor in Chief.
